9 STEPS TO NATURAL AMBIENT HUMIDITY

If we take tropical plants from their natural habitat and confine them to our living rooms, we need to put in some effort to keep them happy.

Here are a few methods you can use to provide them with the ambient humidity they need:

1. You can use a humidifier.

2. Gather all your tropical plants together. Create mini-forests in your home or office so they can warm and humidify each other.

3. The kitchen is one of the most ideal places for ambient humidity due to cooking; you can hang your plants on the windows instead of curtains. 

4. The bathroom is also ideal for humidity due to frequent showers, but since bathrooms usually lack light, plants shouldn't be kept there for too long. In winter, every 2-3 weeks, you can leave your plants in the bathroom after an evening shower, and the next morning, they all go back to their places…

5. Place pebbles/stones in the pot saucer and add a little water, then place the pot on top for a while. Of course, the pot should not touch the water.

6. Do your ironing in the room where your tropical plants need humidity, so the steam from the iron will humidify the environment.

7. Similarly, you can dry your laundry in the room where your tropical plants are.

8. Misting can lead to fungus; instead of misting your plants directly, you can occasionally mist sheer curtains in the room where the plants are.

9. You can wet the outside of a terracotta pot to provide humidity.

KEEP IN MIND

Humidity is not applied directly to the plant; the environment needs to be humidified.

Humidifiers can also cause problems like fungus; use them after carefully assessing whether your environment really needs such intense humidity.

Misting: When we mist tropical plants, we leave water on the leaves. After the humidity has done its job, ventilate the room to prevent the leaves from remaining wet. 

Do not apply ambient humidity treatments on the day you water; it might be too much.
